Australia!

Well, everyone as of yesterday (Monday) morning at 8:30 ish (Sunday afternoon/Evening in the U.S.) I arrived at Melbourne International airport. Even though I was extremely tired I toughed it out and stayed up the whole day and went to bed by 20:00 and didn't wake up till about 8 this morning. But I did get completely unpacked and moved in yesterday so that helped keep me awake. Then Tamara and Maria went to take me on a walk, but it was so windy and cold we hopped right back in the Blackwood bus (actually a van, but they call it their bus).

It's been fun starting to learn some of the culture/dialect differences and I'm sure it will continue to be pretty hysterical and interesting for the next couple months while I get things figured out. So, at the moment it's winter here, which isn't as cold as it gets back home. BUT, since it's been so warm this summer at home I'm constantly chilled here. The houses aren't heated like in the U.S. so you just have to layer to stay warm. So, as you can imagine I'm cold all the time right now, so I'll be drinking plenty of hot tea for the next while to try and stay warm. But, actually when I was on my run this morning it's really the wind that bothered my body the most, the wind is just so cold.

At the moment I'm listening to small voices singing downstairs. The Mum of the family I'm staying with gives piano lessons and then leads a home school choir and it's filled with little ones. So cute, love their little accents! Right now their singing a cute song about kangaroos.

Here are a couple pictures of where I'm living:

My desk.

The wardrobe that I am sharing with Tamara.
The Tri-layered bunk bed that I'm sharing with Maria and Tamara. I'm  on the middle bunk.

I'm Back!

Well, it's definitely been a while since I've posted, but everything has been pretty similar, meaning I've just been at different band camps all summer. Now those are over and things are becoming busy in a new way. Today we loaded Cassie up for her Junior year of college at ISU and she'll start classes this week. You never realize how much stuff you actually have until you try to load it in a car....But the amount of stuff you own that is helpful for when you are at college somehow tends to accumulate even while you are there.

Now this week is going to be a lot of seeing close friends and saying my goodbyes as I get ready to leave for Australia on Saturday which will be a long trip. I go from Indy to Chicago to LA, then LA straight to Melbourne, Australia. So busy busy packing and hanging out with as many people as I can. I will leave Saturday (25 Aug 2012) and my return flight is 11 April 2013.

Here are the pics from loading Cassie up and sending her off (Addie didn't get to be around for the pictures due to being at the IMS (Indianapolis Motor Speedway) parking cars to work off some of her Band fees):

And off she goes!
* Thanks to finally having a couple rain showers our grass looks green, but the camera totally makes it look like we have more grass left after the drought than we actually do.....
